Arsene Will Be Furious

Real Madrid have yet again managed to successfully unsettle an Arsenal player.

Reyes openly admits that he's been unsettled by all of the stupid talk that's been coming out of Madrid recently.

"I miss Spain and I have a unique opportunity to return with what Real are offering. Everyone has to understand I can't let this chance slip away. Real Madrid are unique.

I don't know what is happening but I am a little unsettled by all the rumours."

So after all of the hard work and effort by Arsene and many others at Arsenal, all it took was a few Marca and As 'journalists' to completely ruin it all.

It's obvious from the reaction to the first fake story that most Arsenal fans don't mind if he goes or stays.

He's still only a young boy, and living in England makes him (and therefore probably his immediate family) unhappy, so it's better that he goes in my opinion.

The only obvious problem is a replacement.

Arsene doesn't like spending.

I don't think he'd spend big money even if he had it.

In fact, I think if he had £40m to spend he'd rather buy 40 young players for £1m each, than two £20m players.

He may well have £40m to spend if Cole and Reyes are both sold.

But how will he spend it?

Your guess is as good as mine...

can we be sure that an offer by real madrid has been made or will be made the next days? that would be a prerequisite for any deal to happen. I suspect that josé and his agent are stupid enough just to react to journalist fictions (as they did in the famous hoax a year ago).
let's suppose there is no real interest by real madrid (which is at least possible). how would you react as josé's manager?

this president at madrid seemed far more interested in fabregas than reyes so he should be careful that he does not burn his bridges with arsene. but i do understand his willingness to get away from the horrible climate and and bullying that they call football in this country.

Why is it that everything printed in fucking Marca gets reported as gospel truth in this country ? Even the BBC are treating this "new" twist in the Reyes saga as headline sports news. Marca have a proven, long-term record of writing bullshit about Arsenal players. If we believed what they wrote, Henry would be a Barcelona player and Vieira would have moved to Madrid about three years ago...oh and Reyes would have gone to Real about twice already. Arsenal took quite unusual steps to deny this story with the statement they released immediately after this story broke (not something we've ever done before prior to selling players). Why would we bother doing this if it was even a possibility. Everyone should take this with a massive pinch of salt and not believe everything they read in the greasy Spanish tabs...

Absolutely disgusting post Tom. Reflective of the general attitude and mindset of the hardcore Arsenal set I wonder? I'm sure you're the type who rails on about what a racist tw*t Aragonés is, without having the slightest understanding of the Spanish language and thus what he actually said, while going around calling Spanish papers "greasy" (rich, with the integrity shown by the papers there) and secretly wishing Britannia would rule again...typical Sun reader I suppose. Here's some news to rain on your red white and blue parade. The Henry links came from Sport and EMD, Barcelona papers. The set of quotes that Reyes denied last week came from an English paper. Vieira was oh-so-close to moving 3 summers ago. Reyes has been caught many times saying he's homesick. Marca is a sports tabloid with strong links to Real Madrid, no doubt. But it most certainly has much higher standards than the rags I'm sure you read with frequency, and it does not publish false quotes directly attributed to a player. I know people like you and your backwards, trogolodyte attitudes.

Is seems very suspect that no one knew about this in London, and it only came from Spain.

The proof will be in the pudding, will he play tonight. He should if AFC want to keep him.

If he has contacted AW about leaving he wont play and will be ill.

I agree AW does not know how to buy big, he never has, however now is the time.

If he gets 40 mill in cash, he only needs to spend 20 mill and he should be able to pick up Buffon, Hargreaves and Illiasau.

I dont think we need to replace Reyes, we will have Hleb, Rosicky and Freddie that could fill in, as well as Walcott. It might however mean that Stokes does not go on loan as this could be his chance to be cover.

I think the main question here is "can we replace him???"

And the answer to that is NO!!!

We've been more quiet than most other Premiership teams during the transfer window and I think that goes to show that there's not many players that Arsene wants.

I'm not a massive fan of Reyes. He's shown flashes of what a great player he could be, but that's it, just flashes.

We don't have the squad depth to just let people go now without replacing them.

Only way round it would be to offer Ribery a contract he couldn't refuse. Other than that I can't think of anyone available!!!

I'm starting to worry about this season now!!!

Stop being planks. This is ONLY reported in the Madrid run paper (Marca/Manca whatever its called).

The only thing that matteres is what JAR said a couple of days ago:
"we are all training hard in preparation for the new season and I am excited about not only playing at Emirates Stadium but also helping Arsenal to challenge for honours."

He is going nowhere!!! Stop destabalising our club for the benefit of Madrid.

Incidentally, anyone notice that these are identical comments to those he made a couple of years ago. Some dishonnest reposting from Madrid I believe.

the quotes could all be lies again.....even though i dont think so for some reason....we should keep him and play him as a striker again. he would get goals and become more confident and if fabregas and alumina (bth spanish) help him im sure he would be fine...bt we would need a replacement if he goes...and for cole i say we must buy abidal...he can play in bth CB and LB and he likes arsenal...i knw we have the money...we should js use it...i say get abidal...get trabelsi on free transfer...then get some support like marcos senna in the middle....these wont cost major millions and they will all make the squad much stronger...js wished arsene could read these comments some times

I hope it's not true. I've just read it and assumed it'd be true (mainly as it's on the BBC website and you can usually trust them).

Damn my gullibility!!!

Game is televised on Eurosport UK at 1800

Yeah.. I think Marca is trying to destabilise the situation but why did Cesc not get the same treatment? Why can't we find any news about Cesc missing Spain so much?

I think the truth is Reyes does want to move. He has no problem staying but he can't help begging Real to buy him. He has to go, it's just a matter of time.

Of course the good news is that he is contracted till 2010 and we can take our time to find his replacement before selling him.

Gravesen is available by the way. Capello doesn't like him. Should we get him?

gravesen? no jokes, but I guess why arséne wenger wouldn't want him (apart perhaps from the money he would want to earn) is that he is not tall enough. he is a good defensive midfielder, but wenger's profile seems to include good heading capacities, like vieira, diaby or gilberto have.
I know petit or edu did not have that, but in fabregas there is already a rather small midfielder and gravesen would only make sense as defensive addition to someone like fabregas.

Jim, you're so right. I think the Cole saga has made a lot of Gooners a bit sensitive to tabloid nonsense right now. Read the statement from Arsenal and the full interview with JAR from AS last week - there is just no story here.

I'm looking forward to a big Friday night in with Eurosport already...

I honestly don't care if Reyes leaves to Real. His contribution to Arsenal in his period was disappointing, especially goal-wise. Remember AW brought him as a striker, but he's not a goalscorer that we need next to Henry. He also lacks in passing. He was supposed to become a key attacking player, one that could carry a team in difficult times and change matches, but he didn't. Maybe he's not settled in London, maybe his positioning was wrong, and maybe he's just not the player AW hoped he would become when he spent 17m pounds on him.

Reyes simply failed, I don't mind selling him. There are better players in the market as in our squad.

I for one cannot wait to see Reyes run rings around defenders at Emirates. On such a wider pitch he will undoubtedly terrorize defenses, who will be concerned about Henry getting in behind them, etc - they won't get close enough to him to kick him. Adebayor will be the biggest beneficiary. He'll be odds on for African footballer of the year by December (despite Etoo putting the sword to Arsenal).

That said, I wish like everyone else that Reyes' decision making was better, and I am not sure about him in a 4-4-2 away from home. But this is the stadium for which Wenger bought Reyes.

Reyes is 22, it's far too early to judge his failure or otherwise. And who says AW bought him as a striker ? If that's true you'd think he'd have played him there more often.

I suppose Merida is on trial. a small piece of good news amongst all the shite. Arsenal love being secretive about that sort of thing. Carlos Vela step forward - wherever you are...

I agree - his shot to goal ratio must be shocking ... but his workrate should not be neglected, tracking back and winning back balls. his assist rate is (contrary to what you say) actually quite good.
we might have bought him as a striker, he actually was more an attacking midfielder with defensive capabilities.
I would have rather kept pires for another year than reyes. anyway, I agree we have enough youngsters that could replace him. bendtner or lupoli, anyone?

Just remember. Brian Clough who had the most respected opinion in English football said somethin along the lines of:
"there is one young player in the world better that Wayne Rooney - and thats the young lad at Arsenal Jose Reyes"

JAR is going to explode this year

Reyes is a fantastic player but, if that is his true wish, AW should target Robinho or Batista in a swap deal. As these two players are a different proposition to what reyes had to offer. I would prefer Robinho but, Batista could help resolve our lack of physical stature in midfield.

In reply to earlier comment by the *** called Enough - every *** knows that the Spanish football media - especially that lying rag called Marca - spread as much *** as they can about overseas players with the specific intention of unsettling them and then purchasing the same on the cheap. Even the recently elected President of Rio Madrid spread a catalogue of lies about future purchases before winning the vote.I saw Reyes on the box tonight laughing with Gilberto after he scored a goal and he did not look like he was pining to join Rio Madrid!!
