Rosicky and Hleb are Chalk And Cheese/The Truth About The Takeover

A very good result for Arsenal in the first game of this years Champions League group stage.

The performance was reasonably good, considering the stuttering preparations the team has been able to manage since the season started.

This season is relatively new territory for me.

I don't think I can remember a season where the squad has has so little time together even though six games have been played.

Football seasons are usually like soap operas, the same thing happens every year, except with different/new characters/players.

Not this season though. The stupid fixture list, which has drawn a lot of criticism, might just have upset the usual pattern.

Saying that though, wednesday nights game was pretty much according to script.

A European side thinking that attacking Arsenal is a good Idea, and then getting completely opened up as soon as they do.

Hardly any premiership side do that any more.

Escpecially the weaker teams.

Middlesbrough got a good result at the Emirates by sticking 11 players behind the ball, so other premiership sides will more than likely use the same gameplan until Arsenal figure out a way to beat it.

Not so European sides such as Hamburg on Wednesday.

In the end a Gilberto penalty and a Rosicky screamer were enough to reward Arsenals overall dominance of the game with 3 points.

As for van Persie... It wasn't a dive as far as I'm concerned.

Nor as far as he's concerned either:

"At first it was on my mind to shoot straight away. I just had a first touch and passed the keeper.

There was a little bit of contact, but it was never my intention to dive.

I am not like that and I think it is bad for the game."

Rosicky's goal wasn't a Typical Arsenal goal by any means.

Rosicky is the antithesis of Hleb.

He shoots on sight.

Not so Hleb, who might look for a pass if he was on the six yard line with an open goal.

As far as I'm concerned, Hleb has become the most error prone mamber of the team since Reyes has left, so until he starts shooting, I'd be happy to see Baptista keep him out of the side.

Anyway, just as I'm about to post this, I see that Arsenal have released a statement denying having any talks about a possible take over.

Which doen't suprise me one bit.

Arsenal Holdings plc has noted the speculation in the media that it has received an approach or has been in talks which may lead to an offer for the Company.

The Board of Directors confirms that it is not and has not been in any such talks and has not received any such approach.

Thats the end of that story then....

...yeah right.

Hleb error prone?? What on earth are you talking about. Hleb hardly makes mistake and you know what for his frame he is very very strong and has a lot of stamini.

Hleb was fantastic in the champions league game because for the first time this season he stayed on the RHS increasing our width and hence there was more penetration against a team that hardly concedes goals.

Glo, Seriously man, watch the game again.

Hleb gave the ball away way too many times.

I honeslty can't see how you think otherwise.

Actually, I'm gobsmacked that you think he had a good game.

He was trying, I'll give him that, but he made too many mistakes.

Dun think Hleb is so error prone as said... maybe he is trying to many through pass. Dun buy the shoot on sight theory. His pass in Middlesborough game was good, only to be missed by RVP. His dribble actually open more space for his teammates.

Hleb is our best player in midfield behind Gilberto. The fans are moaning at him for not shooting often. He is not the only player who is not shooting at the moment; TH14 is not shooting either, losing so often the ball and not tracking it back as he did so often last season; but he gets away too easily with criticisms.
Every time Hleb is taken off, we seem to lose our attacking flair; against City, after Hleb and Eboue went off, we never look like scoring a goal; the same against Middlesborough and Hamburg which laid to the equalizer; because we lost Hleb's that holding midfield skill in keeping well the ball and running at defenders.

I like hleb, he can get past people, his link up with eboue is fantastic. therefore ljumberg have to sit on the bench, he hasn't produced much lately.
TH14 should not play even if fit, this is because everybody is always trying to pass to him even when another players is in a better position, playing a big game without him and hopefully winning will be good for the team.

kevin would you like to swap links?

Simon, for a guy who runs a site that has the latest arsenal news you seem worryingly behind the news. ANR still exists. It is changing hosts but you can get him back at Highbury (www.anr.uk.com). put that in your site then maybe i will think it serious enough to make it my default arsenal site.

hleb offers a balance to the midfield as he is one of few players that will run with the ball past players before passing. admittedly I wish he'd shoot more but he does not have that in his locker. the first choice midfield seems pretty clear, rosicky, cesc, gilberto and Hleb.

Yes, they're chalk & cheese, but they also compliment each other well. Hleb doesn't possess the killer ball or shot we were all hoping for but he holds onto the ball very effectively & now has an outlet beyond Fabragas for someone to find with intelligent passes who can in turn supply that killer final pass while he also has the right amount of tenacity in his play that bolters our right midfield. I'm now looking forward to Clichy coming back as I think having 2 orthodox attacking fullbacks will further balance out our attacks given that neither Hleb or Rosicky like to play close to the touchline.

Don't agree on Hleb. Are you sure you weren't mistaking Cesc for Hleb? He gave the ball away several times late in the match against Hamburg. I think both tired in the 2d half. Nonetheless, the combined work rate of Rosicky and Hleb is exceptional. Hleb never had a cracking shot at Stuttgart but was more clinical than he's shown here. Hleb was also MOTM for me against Dinamo.

Was thinking the same about Villa as Boro. In the past both tried to play with us, O'Leary opting for a suicidally high back line, and both wre slaughtered. They've adapted, now we've got to.

Actually, I think Hleb has a pretty good shot. It's hard and cleanly struck. He just doesn't like shooting.

And he can definitely play through balls, but he plays them at the edge of the box usually.

Agreed. Hleb has flopped badly but blame Wenger for that. Hleb is a killer CM but Wenger persists on his project of playign players out of position.

and RVP is a cheat. We always site the Drogfart and Giggs trickery, we must site our own when Eboue, Pires and RVP do it.

I disagree Glo. He can get it right, but this season, in my opinion, he is epitomises the malaise that has set into Arsenal, whereby we don't shoot, have become predictable and lose out counter-attacking impetus by piddle about outside the box. Hleb is hideously predictable - when he has the ball... what's he going to do? SURPRISE SURPRISE! HE WILL CUT BACK INSIDE, KILL OUR MOMENTUM AND SHORT PASS.

A talented guy, but one or two good moves don't eradicate his 15 bad ones per game. Against Middlesbrough he had a SHOCKER, culminating in a 4-yard pass to the opposition when we had three defenders back. I think Wenger is scared to sub him incase it cripples his already low confidence; but perhaps AW is correct - leave him there and soak up the mistakes until he starts clicking.

Oh, but I must say when Hleb and Eboue link up - Hleboue - it's our most effective attacking impetus. Sometimes Eboue has stayed back this season - I'm not sure why. When he goes forward he always look like doing something good. Shame Eboue can't seem to defend for his life at the moment; but fuck it, that's the Arsenal way. More Hleboue please.
